About Donald Glover
Having no relation to the actor Danny Glover, Childish Gambino was born Donald McKinley Glover on September 25, 1983, in Edwards Air Force Base, California. He and his family eventually moved to Stone Mountain, Georgie, where he grew up. In 2006, he landed a job as a writer for NBC’s series 30 Rock, and became widely recognized for his role as Troy Barnes on the show Community, which began in 2009. Clearly gifted in comedy, Childish Gambino decided to simultaneously pursue a music career, releasing an independent album in 2008 entitled Sick Boi. The next year, he released Poindexter, followed by the mixtapes I Am Just a Rapper and I Am Just a Rapper 2.
In 2010, Childish Gambino released his third album Culdesac and also aired a stand-up special on Comedy Central. After signing to Glassnote Records, he released the album Camp in 2011, and four days later kicked off his U.S. tour to promote the album. He later released his second studio album entitled Because the Internet, on which he features the widely popular single “3005”. His extensive touring, however, forced him to cut down on the amount of episodes of Community that he appeared in on their 2013 season.
