James Edward Franco was born in Palo Alto, California on April 19, 1978. After quitting school to become an actor, his first job was in a Pizza Hut commercial. Franco’s first regular TV gig was on NBC show Freaks and Geeks. It was soon cancelled but later gained cult status. He made his film debut in the 1999 Drew Barrymore romantic comedy Never Been Kissed but in his early career is probably most famed for his role as Harry Osborn in Spider-Man (2002) – a role he reprised in the 2004 and 2007 sequels. He had less success with Nicolas Cage directed movie Sonny (2002) which was slated by critics.

He faired better with 2008 comedy Pineapple Express. Starring with Seth Rogen, Franco played drug dealer Saul. His great comedic performance got him nominated for a Best Actor Golden Globe. The accolades for Franco did not stop there, as he earned an Independent Spirit Award for his role in Gus Van Sant’s Milk.

In Danny Boyle’s 127 Hours (2010) he took on the challenge of telling the harrowing real life story of Aaron Ralston; a climber that had to resort to amputating his own arm. It won him an Academy Award nomination and much critical acclaim.

Since then he has appeared in movies such as Rise of the Planet of the Apes (2011) and controversial comedy The Interview (2014).
