Tauheed Epps, professionally known as 2 Chainz, was born on September 12, 1977, in College Park, Georgia. He began his music career as part of the Southern hip-hop duo Playaz Circle, known for their 2007 hit “Duffle Bag Boy” featuring Lil Wayne. After rebranding as 2 Chainz, he gained mainstream attention with his 2012 solo debut, Based on a T.R.U. Story, which debuted at No. 1 on the Billboard 200 and earned him a Grammy nomination. Known for his witty lyricism, distinctive flow, and versatility, he’s become one of hip-hop’s most respected artists.
In November 2023, 2 Chainz reunited with Lil Wayne to release the long-awaited collaboration album Welcome 2 ColleGrove. Featuring artists like 21 Savage, the project debuted at No. 20 on the Billboard 200 and was praised for its chemistry and production. In February 2025, he dropped Life Is Beautiful, a full-length collaboration with Larry June produced by The Alchemist, which showcased a more introspective and mature lyrical style. He has also confirmed an upcoming project produced by Statik Selektah, with expected features from Mary J. Blige, CeeLo Green, and Westside Gunn.
In October 2024, 2 Chainz parted ways with Def Jam and transitioned to independent releases, embracing greater creative control. Outside of music, he’s a successful entrepreneur, owning businesses such as the vegan pizza chain Pizza Verdura and the Atlanta strip club Candyland.
