About Angie Stone
Angela Laverne Brown, known to the world as Angie Stone, was born on December 19, 1961, in Columbia, South Carolina. Her start in music is credited to her time spent in the First Nazareth Baptist Church, where she would sing. Angie Stone was known simply as Angie B. when she was in her teenage years, and along with two of her friends, she formed a rap trio known as The Sequence. After her stint with the trio, Angie Stone joined the R&B group Vertical Hold, which split up after releasing two albums.
In 1999, Angie Stone was signed to Arista Records and shortly after released her album Black Diamond, which went Gold thanks to singles such as “No More Rain (In This Cloud)” and “Everyday”. She went on to release Mahogany Soul in 2001, which also went Gold, followed by Stone Love in 2004 and The Art of Love & War in 2007. The singles featured on the latter album entitled “Baby” awarded her a Grammy nomination for Best R&B Performance by a Duo or Group with Vocals. Stone then went on to release Unexpected in 2010 and Rich Girl in 2012, the latter featuring an intro by actor Malcom-Jamal Warner.
