Anthony Hamilton (born January 28, 1971, Charlotte, NC) is one of R&B’s most soulful and enduring voices. Raised on gospel harmonies in his neighborhood church choir and refined through high-school vocal training, Hamilton’s sound blends raw Southern soul with polished contemporary R&B.
In 1993, he moved to New York City to chase a bigger musical vision. Though an early deal with Uptown Records stalled due to the label’s bankruptcy, Hamilton’s resilience led to the release of XTC on MCA Records in 1996 and a coveted opportunity touring as a background vocalist with D’Angelo—further shaping his smooth, emotionally rich style.
His breakthrough came in 2003 with Comin’ From Where I’m From, a Platinum-certified album that solidified his place in R&B history. The hit single “Charlene” climbed to #19 on the Billboard Hot 100 and earned Hamilton a Grammy nomination for Best Male R&B Vocal Performance in 2005. He continued his success with acclaimed releases including Soulife (2005), Southern Comfort (2007), The Point of It All (2008), and Back to Love (2011).
