Shad Gregory Moss, known professionally as Bow Wow (formerly Lil' Bow Wow), is an American rapper and actor born on March 9, 1987, in Columbus, Ohio. His career commenced at the age of six when he was discovered by rapper Snoop Dogg, who gave him the stage name "Lil' Bow Wow" and featured him on the "Doggystyle" album.
At age eleven, Bow Wow met record producer Jermaine Dupri who played a pivotal role in shaping his career. Under Dupri's mentorship, Bow Wow released his debut album, "Beware of Dog," in 2000 at the age of 13. The album featured hits like "Bounce with Me" and "Bow Wow (That's My Name)" featuring Snoop Dogg, achieving double platinum status.
In 2001, he released his second album, "Doggy Bag," which included singles such as "Take Ya Home" and "Thank You" featuring Jagged Edge. The album peaked at number 11 on the Billboard 200 and was certified platinum.
Bow Wow dropped the "Lil'" from his stage name in 2002, , stating, "I changed my name because I'm getting older now and it's too many Lil's."That same year, he made his acting debut in the lead role of the film "Like Mike," portraying an orphan who becomes an NBA basketball player.
Continuing his music career, Bow Wow released "Unleashed" in 2003, his first album without the "Lil'" moniker. The album peaked at number three on the Billboard 200.He followed up with "Wanted" in 2005, which included the hit singles "Let Me Hold You" featuring Omarion and "Like You" featuring Ciara, both reaching the top 10 on the Billboard Hot 100.
Bow Wow pursued acting, appearing in films such as "Johnson Family Vacation" (2004), "Roll Bounce" (2005), and "The Fast and the Furious: Tokyo Drift" (2006). He also had a recurring role in the television series "Entourage" and starred as Brody Nelson in "CSI: Cyber" until the show's cancellation in 2016.
Throughout his career, Bow Wow has received several awards and nominations, including a BET Award for Viewer's Choice in 2001 and a Billboard Music Award for Rap Single of the Year.
