Bret Michael Sychak (born March 15, 1963, in Butler, Pennsylvania) rose to fame as the frontman of rock band Poison, whose debut album Look What the Cat Dragged In (1986) and follow-up Open Up and Say… Ahh! (1988) spawned major hits like “Talk Dirty to Me,” “Nothin’ But a Good Time,” and the chart-topping ballad “Every Rose Has Its Thorn.” Poison has sold over 65 million albums worldwide, including six Top 10 Billboard Hot 100 singles and one No. 1 hit.
Michaels has built a prolific solo career. His debut solo album A Letter from Death Row (1998) backed his film of the same name, followed by Songs of Life (2003) and Freedom of Sound (2005), the latter tied to his stint as a judge on Nashville Star. In 2010, he won Celebrity Apprentice 3 and released Custom Built, his highest-charting solo effort, which hit No. 1 on Billboard's Hard Rock and No. 14 on the Billboard 200. He later issued Jammin’ with Friends (2013) and True Grit (2015)—the latter including country-rock tracks like “Girls on Bars,” co-written with Luke Laird.
