About DJ Quik
Born David Marvin Blake on January 18, 1970, rapper and record producer DJ Quik was raised in Compton, California. He grew up with a love for music, and was heavily influenced by funk artists such as George Clinton. After independently selling a few of his mixtapes, he was signed to Profile Records, through whom he released his debut album Quik is the Name. This album was carried by the singles “Tonite” and “Born and Raised in Comptom”, which were two top 20 songs. Quik is the Name was later certified Platinum. He would go on to release the albums Way 2 Fonky in 1992, which went Gold, Safe + Sound in 1995, Rhythm-al-ism in 1998, Balance & Options in 2000, Under tha Influence in 2002, Trauma in 2005, and The Book of David in 2011. DJ Quik was then honored at the American Music Awards in 2012 for winning the Biggest Celebrity DJ Award. Throughout his career, he has been able to work with various artists such as Ice Cube, Bun B, Snoop Dogg and E-40, among many others.
