About Enrique Iglesias
The son of famed Spanish singer Julio Iglesias, Enrique Iglesias was born on May 8, 1975, in Madrid, Spain. He went to live with his father in Miami, Florida, and it was there that he began recording songs under the alias Enrique Martinez, for he did not want to be helped by the fame of his father. After signing with the Mexican label Fonovisa, Enrique Iglesias released his debut album Enrique Iglesias in 1995. The album sold around 500,000 copies in the first week, went Gold in Portugal, and had songs which were featured in a variety of telenovelas. Enrique Iglesias later won a Grammy Award for Best Latin Pop Performance for the album. He would later release Vivir in 1997, followed by Cosas del Amor in 1998, and won Favorite Latin Artist at the American Music Awards. Enrique Iglesias did not cross over, however, until the release of his 1999 single “Bailamos”, which charted extremely high in the United States.
2001 saw the release of Escape, his second English language album, featuring the very popular song “Hero”. Iglesias would go on to release Quizas in 2002, 7 in 2003, Insomniac in 2007, Euphoria in 2010, and Sex and Love in 2014. In his career, he has won a Grammy Award, a Latin Grammy, five American Music Awards, and more than 40 Billboard Music Awards, including the Billboard Latin faction of the awards. In addition to an extremely successful music career, Enrique Iglesias scored a part in the film Once Upon a Time in Mexico alongside Antonio Banderas, and was instrumental in raising money through music for the victims of the 2010 Haiti earthquake.
