Foreigner is a British-American rock band formed in New York City in 1976 by guitarist Mick Jones (formerly of Spooky Tooth) and founding members including vocalist Lou GramStyx and Loverboym, guitarist Ian McDonald, drummer Dennis Elliott, keyboardist Al Greenwood, and bassist Ed Gagliardi. Their self-titled debut (1977) and follow-up Double Vision (1978) launched multiple Top 10 hits—“Feels Like the First Time,” “Cold as Ice,” “Hot Blooded,” and “Double Vision”—and solidified their status with six consecutive multi-platinum albums. Despite lineup changes in the 1980s and ’90s, Mick Jones remained at the helm, crafting Foreigner’s biggest anthem, “I Want to Know What Love Is,” himself .
Throughout their career, Foreigner amassed over 80 million record sales worldwide, earned a nomination for Best New Artist at the 1977 Grammys, and won induction into the Songwriters Hall of Fame (Jones & Gramm, 2013) and the Rock & Roll Hall of Fame (2024), alongside original members. The classic members even reunited for anniversary shows in 2017 and 2019 .
Foreigner has been touring in a revamped lineup featuring Jones with long-serving members Jeff Pilson (bass), Kelly Hansen (vocals), Michael Bluestein (keys), Bruce Watson (guitar), Chris Frazier (drums), and Luis Maldonado (guitar/vocals)—regularly performing across North America and sharing stages with bands like Styx and Loverboy. Their extensive “Farewell Tour,” from 2023 through 2025, grossed over $18 million on its first leg and included choir-backed performances and a Las Vegas residency.
