Morris Day (born December 13, 1957, in Springfield, Illinois, United States) is a musician, songwriter, bandleader, and occasional actor best known as the charismatic frontman of the Minneapolis funk band The Time, closely associated with Prince  and the Minneapolis sound. Morris first gained recognition in the 1970s playing drums in the band Grand Central with Prince, a high-school outfit that laid the foundation for their long-running musical partnership, before stepping into the spotlight as lead singer of The Time in the early 1980s. He quickly established a reputation for slick stagecraft, playful bravado, and sharp funk vocals that helped define the group’s hits. He was widely recognized for his energetic performances on songs like “Jungle Love” and “The Bird,” and, with The Time, became a key figure in the development of Minneapolis funk alongside Prince’s own work during the 1980s.
