Seal, born Henry Olusegun Adeola Samuel (February 19, 1963), is a British singer-songwriter. Before deciding to become a musician, Seal earned a degree in architecture and worked various jobs. His first entry into performing was with the funk band Push, whom he travelled with to India, Thailand and Japan. He returned to England and met techno producer Adamski. Both were in the early stages of their careers and had yet to make a mark on the UK music scene. In 1990, Adamski released his track ‘Killer’ that featured Seal’s vocals and lyrics which hit number one on the U.K charts. This single led to Seal’s signing with record label ZTT where he released his self-titled album in 1991. ‘Seal’ (1991) contained his hit single, ‘Crazy’ that made the Top 10 of Billboard’s Pop Chart and sold 3 million copies worldwide. Seal released his second album in 1994 which was also titled ‘Seal (1994)’. The single from his second album, ‘Kiss From a Rose’ was featured on the soundtrack of Batman Forever in 1996. It spent 12 weeks on the Top Adult Contemporary chart in America and went multi-platinum. ‘Kiss From a Rose’ was nominated for 3 Grammy Awards. Seal released his third album ‘Human Being’ in 1998 followed by ‘Seal IV’ in 2003 then ‘Live from Paris’ in 2005. Seal moved his sound into more dance led tracks with his 2007 album, ‘System’ where he then explored his love for covers in his 2008 release, ‘Soul’. Seal added three more albums to his discography; ‘6: Commitment’ in 2010, ‘Soul 2: Deluxe Version’ in 2012, ‘7’ in 2015, ‘Standards’ in 2017. Now at age 57, Seal currently has 3 million monthly listeners with ‘Kiss From a Rose’ garnering 145 million plays on Spotify.
