Simply Red emerged from Manchester as an original line-up of six members named Mick Hucknall, Tony Bowers, Chris Joyce, Dave Fryman, Fritz McIntyre, and Tim Kellet. From 1984 onward, they quickly grabbed the attention of Brits in the post-punk world. The US label Elektra offered them a lucrative deal within their first six months, and they soon climbed yet more charts with the release of Picture Book (1985). It was in 1989 that their third album A New Flame allowed for a new height of success; the group became known in America as an act comparable in popularity to John Lennon and Queen. The band would continue to release numerous albums and singles over the years, with lead singer Hucknall still contributing to the band over twenty-five years later.
