The B-52s are a new wave, dance-rock, pop rock band. They were founded in the city of Athens, Georgia in 1976. Their music is characterized by being cheerful and having catchy dance rhythms, which is why The B-52s are remembered as one of the best party bands in the U.S. They have sold over 20 million albums in their career. The band played their first concert in 1977. The original members of the band were Fred Schneider, Kate Pierson, Keith Strickland, Cindy Wilson, and Ricky Wilson. In 2008, the band dropped the apostrophe from their name to become “The B-52s”. They also released the album “Funplex”, their first original album since 1992’s “Good Stuff”. In 2012 the band toured around the world with groups such as The Go-Go’s, Tears for Fears, The Psychedlic Furs and Simple Minds.
