Tiësto is the stage name of Tijis Michiel Verwest, a multi-awarded Dutch DJ and music producer. He was born on the 17th of January, 1969, in Breda, North Brabant, Netherlands. He began his career during the 1990s in his hometown. In 1997, he co-founded, alongside Arny Bink, the record label Black Hole Recordings. He released his breakthrough series “Magik” and “In Search of Sunrise” through his label, which earned him international fame. Soon after that, he met producer Dennis Waakop, who became a major collaborator in his productions. He has collaborated with major artists in the industry like Armin van Buuren, Avicii and Steve Aoki among others. Verwest is considered to be a pioneer in the EDM genre, besides having been voted the “best DJ of the last 20 years” by DJ Mag readers. He has won several Grammys, and dozens of his singles have topped international charts.
